Hi Molly,

It is great to see you looking so happy and healthy. Do you remember me from the 1983 Trail Reunion in Klamath Falls, OR? My mother gave me your mother's Christmas letter to read, and of course I had to check out this site on the Net.

I would love to hear from you. My address is << Skvln40@aol.com >>

Love and best wishes for your continued success, fundraising and most importantly, your continued recovery.

I just wanted to say that this site has been the most inspiring site I have visited since I was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer a little over a month ago. I had joined an online cancer support group not that long ago and along with it attached my email address in the case that anyone wanted to exchange feelings and thoughts. WELL, to my surprise, I was emailed by Molly and found out that she had survived colon cancer and was the same age as myself...24 years old. We chatted online for a while, shared some thoughts, humour and a little of what we have gone through. I simply asked her if she had a picture of herself and she gave me the address to rollingtorecovery. I was so shocked when I got here as I had no idea that this little "summer project" she told me she did was such an amazing and informative website. I am honourned to have had the opportunity to talk with her and will continue to share my friendship to her although we are miles and hours away from eachother. In any case, thank you Molly for being so positve and giving me the hope that I need to fight this battle ahead. I can only hope that I turn out to be as strong as you have and help others in the process. Wonderful site my dear!! Talk to you soon on MSN!! In my thoughts and prayers...

love always...Kat...xoxo

Would love to have you contact me snail mail - do not know if you are still a student at CSU but my daughter and I have a fantastic oncologist in Fort Collins that we would like to connect you with. My daughter, now 23, was diagnosed with a very rare cancer February 1998 when a junior at University Northern Colorado. She has been able to return to school and hopefully will graduate May 2001. I just wanted to thank Molly for taking the time to speak to the Glens Falls High School students today. Molly, you are an inspiration and the standing ovation you received from the students and staff says it all. Thank you for sharing your story and raising the awareness, of our students, to colon cancer. I'm sure your story was much more affective than hearing it in class or on tv. I especially liked Mr. Geyer's fund raising challenge to the staff and students! Thank you. P.S. Grant is already looking forward to the New York City Marathon. (As an observer!)

Hi Molly, I'm not sure if this will reach you, but I'll give it a try. My dad died of colon cancer at 51 and his doctors told my sister and I that we should be checked by our mid thirties. Well its that time. This past month I had a swollen lymphnode under my arm and it scared the heck out of me. Everything seems fine though I know I should folow up on more tests for the colon cancer. I am an avid runner in the Adirondack Runners club and would enjoy training with you and keeping you company during the marathon. I am pretty much 5K runner, but I would like to run a marathon for a good cause (especially one that may someday save my life). I followed your journey in the papers. Its kept me aware of the fact that I need to follow up on my health even though I'm feeling fine right now. Hope to hear from you. Many Thanks for All You've Done

Congrats, Molly! We read about you in the Fort Collins Coloradoan yesterday. You're one courageous and spirited girl. Your spirit shows when you beat colon cancer and then skated to inform others & gather donations.

My wife's dad died July 1, 1999 in Walton NY (between Binghamton and Oneonta) of lymphnoma after having colon cancer for 3 long years. It was rough to be in Fort Collins, 1,800 miles from him, for most of the struggles, operations, and failing health.

What you did with your cross-country skating is a lesson for all of us who have either been part of a cancer story or not. The lesson is to let others share in our good times and help us in our bad ones. Cancer does not have to be a lonely disease and it does not always have to be terminal. I believe that you were spared to do what you did! Glad you had the presence of mind to carry it out.

God bless you and your family and friends. They're fortunate to have someone like you in their lives!

(P.S. Hockey is my family's favorite sport, too - girls, boys, mom, dad, roller hockey or ice hockey, winter or summer!)

I also laughed because I could hear your voice as I was reading what you were writing when you'd say, "what's up with that?" hehe. BTW, holy shit! You actually got to meet the olympic hockey chicks...Damn...Cammi Granato <shakes her head in wonder> Anyways, I just want to tell you... You are my hero babe!

Corey (p.s. I still think of you when I skate backwards because you had the bloody patience to teach me :)

Hey Mol, I don't know if you'll remember me from a few years back. We played a little hockey with (and against) eachother, until you got better than me and we hung out a bit. I don't really know what to say except that what you're doing is amazing. I don't think I ever told you I lost my dad to cancer as a kid. My family's battled with it as long as I can remember. For me it's truly amazing to see someone not only be a survivor of the battle, but a warrior on behalf of those with little fight left in them. Thank you for your spirit, grit, determination, and smile. Be good, skate hard, and have a ball! Dan

I left a message at your e-mail rollingtorecovery@hotmail.com, check it out if you read this tonight.

WAY TO GO!! You will beat this! I heard on local news cast here in Denver just a few minutes ago about your venture. I am glad that you were finally able to get a correct diagnosis and get treatment right away. I imagine those few months were very nerve wrecking, and physically painful.

I went into your web site and read your story. I love hockey, it's in my blood of course, being raised in Minnesota. I don't play much any more, ice times of 11 p.m. for games and 1 a.m. practices don't mix well with 7 a.m. work. I am also a very avid mountain biker and know the rush of both these sports.

Just personnel comment...this is TOO weird. Let me get to it I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in Jan. 1984. Within the next few weeks I went through the same things that you did in terms of pain. Very severe cramps, and being too proud, going to class without painkillers and trying to carry on as normal. Hospitalized (at Poudre Valley Hospital in Ft. Collins, just a few miles from Greeley) for a second time on my 22nd birthday, Feb. 4, 1984.Within two days I was rushed into surgery. They had been taking x-rays to keep an eye on things and it got worse. My parents had 3 doctors, besides my G.I. give an opinion before surgery. Luckily it was not cancer, but still very devastating. I had to have an illeostomy. I was in my junior year at CSU, and was able to return the fall semester that year. I had ideas similar to yours, although not as noble as raising money for cancer, to raise awareness of IBD and the people who have had it. At the time I was in care, I was told that Frank Sinatra, and Ralph Benirska (at that time the San Diego Chargers place kicker) were just among the few famous people who had the disease and lived with it.

I am glad to see that another young person is taking such a great look on life and doing something amazing.

Molly I was reading the Coloradoan today and saw you on one of the front pages. I looked up your website and realized what a difference a person can make. I am sure that you have impacted many lives along your journey and I just wanted to applaud you. I was just reading the article about you today and I really needed to hear your story. Sometimes people, including myself get too involved in themselves, and need others to put them in perspective. It was nice to realize today how short life is and how I don't want to take mine for granted. Your story really hits close to the heart and I learn from it to appreciate all my friends and family because they all leave too quickly. Good luck on your journey, you are really doing an amazing thing!!!!

I called our local newspaper office at Benkelman to advise them where you were and that I felt it was newsworthy. I was glad to see that your story & picture was in the local newspaper. It sounds like you were treated well in our community & I'm sorry that I didn't get to meet you personally. After reading what you have been through both with your battle against cancer as well as this fantastic trip, I applaud you!! Both of these battles seem unbelievable to me but you are proving it can be done with the will & determination to succeed! GOOD LUCK to you in all that you do throughout your life. While you've been doing "the cruise, and the curb-side crawl" (from the song "ROLLER GIRL" by DIRE STRAITS) it has accured to me what an impact "Rolling to Recovery" will have on the rest of your life. You're demonstrating the highest degree of STRENGTH and DETERMINATION, in both BODY and MIND, simultaniously. YOUR ONE TOUGH COOKIE ! I'm begining to see how you beat that damn cancer. What do you do with all of your worn-out skates and wheels. Can they be sold or auctioned for research $$$ ? I'll buy one ! Once you make that "Rocky Mountain State" line, it won't be much farther :), How are ya get'n back to Glen Falls?

Molly,

I just looked over your whole web site, and it is great! I don't mean to take up more space on your Guest Book, but after seeing your whole web site, I had to say more. I especially like the photos! You look great! When I was reading about you teaching a woman to do backward cross-overs, it made me think about the time you spent with me doing the same. Thanks for all the encouragement you have given me to learn to be a better skater and to play hockey. What a great sport! How did I ever life without it?

I think what you are doing is wonderful. My Dad died of cancer many years ago. He had a brain tumor, and there was really nothing that could be done for him. He died peacefully only after 8 months of being diagnosed. You have been given a second chance by God to do great things. Believe in Him, believe in yourself. I can't wait to see you. Take care, and keep skating.

I read your diary on line. My sister was diagnosed with colon cancer last August (age 30). I printed a copy of your diary and sent it to her. It helped her a lot! Your diary is inspiring and I wish my sister had the same attitude that you have! God Bless You!

I met Molly near Biggsville, Illinois just before she crossed the Mississippi. I had gotten several telephone calls. So, I did an interview for our newspaper. She is a great gal with a lot of energy and determination and heart. I think what she is doing is great. She is very good with time-management, too. A good marketing major she would be. I love her mom, too. The story I did on her can be found on my Quill newspaper web site at: http://homepage.hcil.net/~quill/thisweek/a0504a1.html. If you could send me her mom's address again. I will send a copy of the Quill with her article and picture. People said they heard the interview on the Burlington KBUR/KGRS radio station Monday A.M. I was glad to meet Molly and Trudi. I wish her the best of luck!

Molly is my husband Norm's cousin. We were honored this weekend to offer our home for Molly and her mom, Trudy to rest a bit at her almost 1/2 way point. She was interviewed by NBC, Chicago, Channel 5 news! I am particularly proud of Molly and cheer her on because I lost a mother and a brother to colon cancer. She has a wonderful pioneering spirit! Go Molly! Her mom is pretty special too and I came to love them both in just a short two days. Our neighbors loved it as well! I have nominated her for Oprahs angel network. Should there be others out there who feel the way I do, please do the same! It can be done on line! If she wins the nomination, it is my understanding that $50,000 will be donated to the charity (cancer research) I got the e-mail address for Oprah in "O" magazine. God bless you Molly and Trudy. What you are doing is absolutely remarkable.

Molly, I've been following your story for months now, first hearing you on the radio.Today I caught up on your journal entries. Indiana sounds pretty cool with all the amish people. Last year I went to England and wrote in a journal daily about the trip. It was great fun reading it from start to finish at the end of our travels. Your really lucky to be sharing this trip with your mom. My trip to England was for my mom, we wanted to go there together to visit her childhood pen pal. They started writing in 1944, my mom was 12, and continued to write until 1996 when my mom passed away. They met once in person when Betty stayed with us at our home in Hudson Falls, for 3weeks in 1978. Last May a friend and I stayed with her for 2 weeks. I got to meet her daughters, it was a trip of a life time for me,just kept hoping that my mom was in some way sharing the trip will me. Keep journaling! Way 2 Go Molly and Mom !!!!

Molly, I have been checking your diary every day and noticed that your spirits are kinda low. I am sorry that I can't be there to skate by your side but a friend of mine and i have been skating about 5 miles a day and think of you every time we are out on the pavement. Keep your chin up and remember the good times....

Molly, you stole my idea! :) LOL... I was diagnosed in '95 with thyroid cancer - surgery took place the day before my 25th birthday. Recently I was toying with the idea of a cross-country awareness/fundraiser, and figured everything's been done except rollerblading.... Well, great minds think alike, because not long thereafter, I heard about your journey on WPLJ (evidently, some great minds think faster than others). So I'm coming along in spirit anyway. Best of luck, and thanks... I'll be following the website.

Hi Molly, I listen to your updates every morning on Cool Rock. You are an inspiration. Your web site had me so teary eyed I couldn't read the screen. I lost my father in law to throat cancer a year ago and at the same time I watched my stepfather battle the same cancer and survive!!!! "Live each day to the fullest" is a motto he lives by now. He used to be quite staunch and serious and everything had to be planned to perfection, now he is carefree, retired and enjoying every minute. It is an amazing metamorphis. YOU GO GIRL!!!!! Well it has been a long time since I contacted you. I have had two surguries since the time I visited the Mayo Clinic and I just got out from the last surgury yesterday. I guess I have good news. I had two CT scans and they say that I am negative for the cancer but it has only bee about 2.5 months. The reason that I went in was a blockage that occured in the small intestines. I had adheasions from the big resection surgury and it just caused a kink. the bad news was that in the surgury to remove the adheasions i got infected. This was the reason for the long stay in the hospital. I wanted to write you and let you know I was thinking of you. I hope all is going well on your trip and that a little note from me brightens your day a little. I am also going to write to your e-mail list..I just wasn't sure which way would get to you better. I am sending My Love and best wishes..maybe I can skate a mile with you :) lets just hope recovery from these surguries doesn't take as long.
